Airport Report by Gabriel
I love airports even though I got lost in one. Why do they call them airports? The original meaning of port was to carry things—in your hands or on your back. When people started using ships to carry or transport things, they needed places to unload. These places began to be called seaports or just ports. Today there are big ports like New York, London and Singapore. Then people started using airplanes to carry themselves and packages, they called the places where the planes landed airports. Everything from bicycles to buses and cargo ships to jet planes is called ___________________ . This word includes all the ways we ‘carry’ things and people across land and sea. When products like cars, clothes, or food are sent out of our country, they are called ______________________ . When things are coming into our country from other places, they are called imports .At our local airport, my family was in a long line that was forming for check in. Travel can be very stressful. The airport managers thought it was important to do something to help. They had dancers perform to entertain people waiting in lines. A television reporter was there to report on this new idea. A sign informed me that they were doing a butterfly dance, but their costumes looked more like caterpillars. It looked very _____________ with each dancer moving around in different directions. Suddenly, they began to form a circle. Their costumes started turning inside out and they ________________ into butterflies. Then they danced together in a ___________ way as brightly colored butterflies with everyone doing the same moves. I was so amazed by the dancers that I forgot to follow my parents.
