Safety: dish detergent is an eye irritant, please protect your eyes accordingly
1. Carefully pour some milk in a bowl so it just covers the bottom.
2. Set up #1: Gently add one or two drops of red, blue, green and yellow food coloring to four different corners(top/bottom/left/right) of the milk.
3. Take a picture of set up #1 and record below.
4. Set up #2: Dip a cotton swab/toothpick in your detergent, then gently touch the center of the milk. (Do not stir!)
5. Take a picture of set up #2 and record below.
6. Set up #3: Push the cotton swab/toothpick down in the same spot all the way to the bottom of the plate and hold it there.
7. Take a picture of set up #3 and record below.
8. Set up #4: Dip a new cotton swab/toothpick in the detergent. Then touch different areas of food coloring along the edge of the plate to see if the color will move again.
9. Take a picture of set up #4 and record below.
10. Please dispose of your milk mixture in the sink and rinse out the bowls to be used again.
11. Set up #5: Reset the entire experiment, but use water just covering the bottom instead of milk. Dip a cotton swab/toothpick in the detergent. Then repeat the steps of dipping on the surface, dipping and holding on the bottom, and dipping on the different edges of the plate to see if the color will move again.
12. Take a picture of set up #5 and record below.
13. Set up #6: Reset the entire experiment, but use either more water or more milk. Dip a cotton swab/toothpick in the detergent. Then repeat the steps of dipping on the surface, dipping and holding on the bottom, and dipping on the different edges of the plate to see if the color will move again.
14. Take a picture of set up #6 and record below.
15. Please dispose of your water mixture in the sink and rinse out the bowls to be used again.
16. Answer all questions pertaining to the lab.
