In the material that we covered on East Asian Educational systems in China & Singapore students were encouraged and compelled to focus on learning and academic success for almost the entire day. The result is that these countries are producing students that learn difficult material very quickly at very early ages.

Some would say that in America we focus on the happiness of a child regardless of their intellecutal success and while we encourage young people to learn, we do not compell them to do so. The result is that we are producing students that learn basic material slowly at much older ages.
