DNA is the top two strands, notice that the strand breaks apart and instead of T's there are U's. This is now a strand of RNA. (Transcription)

RNA is then read by the ribosome (See next picture). The ribosome reads the RNA in groups of 3 called codons. These codons create an amino acid (the purple circles in this picture). (Translation)
