Math - [Lesson 2.17]

Teacher: Mr. Kovalik (408) 314-1092

Objective and Summary:
SWBAT draw tape diagrams to write and solve equations of the form p(x+ q) = r
1

Cheezeburgers--Emilio and his two friends go to In N Out for lunch. They all order Double-Doubles and fries. Fries are $1.50 each and they spend a total of $13.50.
How much did each Double-Double cost?

"The cost of each Double-Double is..."

You MUST draw a tape diagram AND your equation for this problem to get any credit.

CFS:
#1: Defines an appropriate variable
#2: Accurately creates tape diagram
#3: Accurately writes and solves equation

For the rest of independent practice, just create your tape diagram on Formative. You can write your equation and do calculations in the SYW page of your notebook.
1

ASONY--For dinner one night, the 5 person Mancini family went to their local pizza shop, A Slice of New York, where they spent a total of $35. Each member of the family bought a slice of pizza and a soda.
If the cost of each soda was $3, how much did one slice of pizza cost?

"One slice of pizza cost..."

#1: Defines an appropriate variable
#2: Accurately creates tape diagram
#3: Accurately writes and solves equation

1

Shopping--Abel, Babel, and Cabel went shopping for Black Friday deals. They each bought a $10 gift card to Amazon and matching pairs of new shoes. If they spent a total of $103.83 at the mall, how much was each pair of shoes?

"Each pair of shoes cost..."

1

Waiting--Heather works as a waitress at her family’s restaurant. She works 2 hours every morning during the breakfast shift and returns to work each evening for the dinner shift. In the last four days, she worked a total of 28 hours. If Heather works the same number of hours every evening, how many hours did she work during each dinner shift?

"During each dinner shift, Heather works..."

SPICY--Try if you have time.

Baseball--Last week, John, Louie, and Bonnie went to see the Giants play a game. They each bought a ticket to the game and a hat that cost $9.95. If they paid a total of $134.46, how much was each ticket to enter the ballpark?

4

Vacation!!--A family of 5 flew to Hawaii for vacation. Each person had to have their own ticket and also pay $25 in baggage fees. The family paid a total of $875 for the trip.
What was the cost of one ticket?

"The cost of one ticket was..."

Good work! Make sure you answered all questions and showed your tape diagram and equation.

1) Work on extra equations pracitce on IXL (search code: NSH)

2) Work ahead on the diagnostic or on Algebra 1 if I have told you that you're ready.
