Math - [Lesson 4.12]

Teacher: Mr. Kovalik (408) 314-1092

Objective and Summary:
SWBAT make scale drawings by using percent scale factors
1

You Try--Use a scale factor of 75%.

Find the new base and height of the triangle and draw/label a scale drawing.

"The new base and height are..."

CFS:
#1: Accurately converts scale factor to a decimal
#2: Accurately writes equations to find new dimensions

1

Plankton--Mr. Kovalik wants to print Plankton on his math classwork. However, since Plankton is so small he decides to apply a scale factor of 185% to make him easier to see.

What are Plankton's new measurements after using the scale factor? (You don't have to draw him exactly. You can just use a rectangle to approximate)

"Plankton's new measurements are..."

CFS:
#1: Accurately converts scale factor to a decimal
#2: Accurately writes equations to find new dimensions

1

Rectangular--Draw and label a new rectangle after using a 30% scale factor.

"The new height and width are..."

CFS:
#1: Accurately converts scale factor to a decimal
#2: Accurately writes equations to find new dimensions

1

Play Pen--Enrique has one play pen for his puppies. He wants to build a second play pen with a horizontal scale factor of 55% and a vertical scale factor of 220%.

(Remember that horizontal means left to right and vertical means up and down)

"The new height and width are..."

CFS:
#1: Accurately converts scale factor to a decimal
#2: Accurately writes equations to find new dimensions

1

Try if you have time (optional)

Portrait--Anna wants to make a new picture frame proportional to her original one. She will apply a scale factor of 65%.

What are the new dimensions of the picture frame? Draw and label your scale drawing.

"The new dimensions of the picture frame are..."

CFS:
#1: Accurately converts scale factor to a decimal
#2: Accurately writes equations to find new dimensions

New Space--You are designing the layout of the bedroom in your new apartment. The first two things you want to find a location for are your desk and your chair.

The desk is 30 inches by 40 inches in real life.
The chair is 18 inches by 32 inches in real life.

The grid in the SYW section is the exact layout of your bedroom but at 15% scale, with each square representing 1 inch after a reduction.

a) Calculate the dimensions of each object using the scale factor. You can type this into the answer box.
For example, "The desk is ______ by _______ in the drawing"
"The chair is ______ by _______ in the drawing"

b) Draw AND label the desk and chair, making sure they fit within the room. If you have decimals, do your best to just approximate them in the picture.

**You MUST SYW in formative to receive credit**
