Pre_goal - I can tell the difference among the definitions of the dependent variable, independent variable, and the control variable.

Using the definitions below to answer questions #1-3.

Key Terms

-Variable: An element, feature, or factor that can vary or change (i.e. ramp height, etc.)

-Dependent Variable: A variable whose value depends on another variable and is measured.

-Independent Variable: A value not dependent on another value but directly changed by an experimenter.

-Control Variable: A variable that is kept the same throughout an experiment.

*There can be many control variables but only one variable can be directly changed (independent)

and for simplicity one measured variable (dependent). All other variables must be controlled.

Which definition describes a control variable.
What the experimenter directly changes.
What the experimenter measures as a result of changing something else.
What the experimenter doesn't ever allow to change and doesn't ever allow to affect the other variables.
Which definition describes an independent variable.
What the experimenter directly changes.
What the experimenter measures as a result of changing something else.
What the experimenter doesn't ever allow to change and doesn't ever allow to affect the other variables.
Which definition describes a dependent variable.
What the experimenter directly changes.
What the experimenter measures as a result of changing something else.
What the experimenter doesn't ever allow to change and doesn't ever allow to affect the other variables.

Select all the things that can changed in this experiment below. Remember to select ALL that apply.

Experiment: A study was done to see if the temperature of the air in the oven is related to the time it takes to bake a cake.

type of ball used
temperature of the air in the oven
the baking time of the cake
type of cake used

Identify the independent variable in the experiment below.

Experiment: A study was done to see if the temperature of the air in the oven is related to the time it takes to bake a cake.

type of cake used
temperature of the air in the oven
the baking time of the cake

Identify the dependent variable in the experiment below.

Experiment: A study was done to see if the temperature of the air in the oven is related to the time it takes to bake a cake.

type of cake used
