How to add a Screencastify recording!

There are 3 ways to add a Screencastify recording to a formative:
  1. You can add the recording from Google Drive using the "Embed" option.
  2. You can add the recording from Google Drive using the "Video" option.
  3. You can download your recording as a GIF, then add it to a formative using the "Image" option (less than 5MB files only).

Instructions to add a Screencastify recording using Embed or Video

1. Click on the Screencastify Chrome extension and click on "My Recordings:"


2. Find the recording you need, click on it, then click on the "Copy shareable link" option:


Note: Make sure that the sharing settings are either "Public" or "Unlisted," so that your students will be able to view it.

3. Paste the shareable link into either the "Embed" content option or the "Video" content option:


Your recording will appear as a standalone video in Formative. You can also use the "Embed" and "Video" options wherever you see the "+" symbol, to add the recording to a specific question, or to answer options (e.g. in a Multiple Choice question):

Instructions to add a Screencastify recording as a GIF using Image

Note: Image files must be 5MB or less, so this option is suitable only for recordings of around 15 seconds or less.

1. Click on the Screencastify Chrome extension and click on "My Recordings:"


2. Find the recording you need, click on it, then "Download" and select "Export animated GIF:"


3. When the GIF has exported, click "Download" to save the GIF to your device.
4. Choose the "Image" content option, or click the "+" within a question or answer option and select "Image." Then upload the GIF from your device:
