What is the difference between an indentured servant and a slave?
Indentured servants can afford passage to the "New" world whereas slaves cannot.
Indentured servants are from African descent and slaves are white.
Indentured servants serve for 3-7 years whereas slaves are forced to work for life.
The terms are virtually the same. They are different in name only.
Why did the English use Africans rather than Native Americans for slave labor?
Contracts for indentured servants only lasted 3-7 years.
Africans worked harder since they came to the “New” World for a better life.
Native Americans were more costly than Africans.
Native Americans could easily run away and return home to their people.
