La festividad más grande del Imperio Inca se repite todos los años el 24 de junio. Para una cultura que basaba su religión en la adoración al sol, esta fiesta es una ceremonia imprescindible.
Coincide con el solsticio de invierno, el día más corto y la noche más larga del año; para pedir al sol que regrese, los cusqueños celebran con música, danza y representaciones del Inca y su séquito real en un despliegue de impresionantes dimensiones.
