why didn’t they include percolation (infiltration) in this version of the water cycle?

Question 5
5.
Why shouldn’t they burn the trash?
Burning plastic trash can release toxic fumes into the atmosphere, and lots of times burned trash (like foils, food, paper, and plastic) doesn’t burn all the way, still attracting wildlife and leaving a mess.
The trash would be forever gone and no longer a problem
Leave the trash at the campsite
The campsite would appear clean if Brenda and Julia burned their trash
Question 6
6.
Why shouldn’t they bury the trash?
Leave the trash at the campsite
Burning plastic trash can release toxic fumes into the atmosphere, and lots of times burned trash (like foils, food, paper, and plastic) doesn’t burn all the way, still attracting wildlife and leaving a mess.
Even though the campsite would appear clean if Brenda and Julia buried their trash, the trash could be dug up by wildlife and strewn about the area. Even if the trash remains buried, it could take many years to break down into soil.
The trash would be forever gone and no longer a problem

Question 8
8.
Why should the manure be composted before being used as fertilizer?
If manure is composted, it will readily evaporate into the atmosphere
If the manure is composted first, using it as fertilizer for crops is a good way to recycle waste from chickens.
If manure is composted, it will dissolve more readily into the water
Question 9
9.
Why doesn’t it help to just keep the chickens and their manure away from streams and other water bodies?
If manure is composted, it will readily evaporate into the atmosphere
Rain can still wash manure into streams in the form of runoff
If manure is composted, it will dissolve more readily into the water
Question 10
10.
Why must the manure be removed from the farm in one way or another?
It can be used for food for chickens and other livestock

Question 12
12.
Why is it important to recycle used motor oil?
Motor oil can be used to start fires for electricity
Motor oil is toxic to humans, plants, and animals.
Motor oil is a good source of nutrients for organisms
Question 13
13.
Choose all of the following that are environmental issues with used motor oil
Oil that is dumped on the ground is likely to seep into the soil and find it's way into groundwater or flow into a lake or stream.
Oil thrown in the trash usually ends up in a land fill. The oil could eventually seep into the soil when it is in the landfill and contaminate groundwater.
Oil that is dumped down the drain is likely to find it's way to a water treatment facility. These facilities, however, do not have the ability to take used oil out of the water before it is released back into the environment.

Question 15
15.
Give
two
reasons why toxic pesticides should not be used.
Toxic pesticides can also kill natural predators, like ladybugs, and other wildlife.
Toxic pesticides create three-eyed fish in rivers that cannot be eaten
Toxic pesticides that are sprayed on fields can end up being washed into nearby streams and polluting the water.

Question 17
17.
What are the
three
ways for us to help reduce pollution from paper mills?
Reduce the amount of paper that you use. The less paper you use, the less paper will need to be created.
Recycle your paper once you are done with it. Or alternatively, find a way to reuse your paper for something new.
Buy paper that is ‘chlorine-free’ and at least 30% post-consumer recycled content
Print all of your assignments out so you can have hard copies of all your work.
Congratulations! You’ve cleaned up the watershed!
