Compare the Excerpt from Washington's speech to what you know about Hurston, her background, and what she writes about in the novel. Would she support his philosophy of education? Why or why not
To respond, please do the following: Create a thesis statement (6B) for starting this argument. It must include a defensible claim about your interpretation of the text(s). Then write a paragraph linking your argument to relevant, text-based evidence supporting it. (6C)

Example:
Here is my thesis statement, and it's a thesis statement because it effectively states my claim but not my evidence or analysis yet. Simply put, in my thesis, I can communicate something defensible and express it in an active voice.

Here is my paragraph where I link the argument (my thesis) to evidence supporting my argument. Notice how it is separate from my thesis. It includes commentary about how the evidence supports my argument and reinforces my thoughts in perhaps some other way. I may then talk about the evidence and break it down or provide some context so the person reading this paragraph can see why my evidence is solid. I write in the active voice and avoid all personal pronouns because they are redundant in a short answer assignment. Writing in the active voice means the subject performs the action. One should use an active voice to avoid excessive wordiness and indirect language.
