Look at this image of the "Storming of the Bastille," one of the key moments of the French Revolution, then read the short description of this event and answer the question that follows.

On July 14, 1789, a revolutionary crowd stormed the Bastille, as this contemporary painting shows. Both a fortress and a prison, the Bastille housed valuable gunpowder (which the crowd seized) and prisoners (whom they freed). They also beheaded some royal officials. An early victory, the Bastille became an important symbol of the French Revolution.
