Venus is the second planet from the sun and closer to Earth than Mars. The planet was named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty and is sometimes referred to as Earth's "sister" or "twin" planet. It spins in the opposite direction of Earth. Venus is known as the hottest planet in the solar system, its surface temperature ranges from about 820oF to about 900oF.
