For the modeling task, You may wish to provide string, a disposible cup, tape, an unsharpened pencil, a measuring tape, a paperclip, and a binderclip. The binderclip should have enough mass to simulate the swing and rider. To collect good evidence, students may need to be reminded of the method for calculating  speed. 
A related phenomenon would be runners racing on a circular track.
