I am learning about Feudal Japan.
Success Criteria:
I can describe the significance of Japan’s proximity to China and Korea and the intellectual, linguistic, religious, and philosophical influence of those countries on Japan.
I can describe the values, social customs, and traditions prescribed by the lord-vassal (feudal) system consisting of shogun, daimyo, and samurai and the lasting influence of the warrior code in the twentieth century.
I can trace the development of distinctive forms of Japanese Zen Buddhism.
I have analyzed the rise of a military society in the late twelfth century and the role of the samurai in that society.

Below are two videos, one on Shintoism, one on Zen Buddhism. We will watch both and briefly discuss the main beliefs of each religion. Important Vocabulary: Kami, Torii, Zen/Chan, Zazen, Self-Discipline.
