The students in Ms. Ming’s class had learned that too much rain could cause floods. Floods can damage people’s homes. They can even destroy towns, especially if there is a lot of wind. A storm with a lot of wind and rain is called a hurricane.
Ms. Ming told the children about a hurricane that had happened just a few days ago. Many people lost all they had. Some of these survivors had no place to live. What made it even worse is that many children were homeless, too. They were living in tents and were cold, wet, and hungry.
When they heard about the flood, the students wanted to help. They got other classes in the school to help, too. All of them brought in cans of food, and they managed to obtain clothes and blankets. Some students bought new toys, while others gathered old books and games from home.
The people in town heard about what the students had done. They wanted to help. They collected money for the flood victims. Some parents packed the things the students had gathered.
Now the things could be sent to the people who had lost so much to the flood. All the people in town were happy. They knew the students had done a good deed.
