It was a beautiful spring day. The sky was blue and there was a nice breeze. In the park, many children were flying their kites.
Carl walked to the park with his parents and his sister. Under his arm was a special kite that had been sent to him from Japan. His brother was in the army there. Carl missed his brother and was excited about the kite.
Carl took the kite out of the box. It was shaped like a fish. Carl thought it was beautiful! He tied the string to the kite carefully so he would not lose it. Then he held the kite high and let the breeze take it into the sky.
As Carl let the string out, the kite flew higher. All the other children noticed it, and they pulled their kites down so they could see his kite better. After a while, his kite was the only one in the sky.
All the children wanted to know where Carl got his kite. When he told them, it made him proud and happy. His beautiful kite helped him remember his brother who was far away.
