2.

Type the complementary DNA strand for the segment shown.

3.

Select all of the base pairs in the following image that violate Chargaff's Rules.

4.

SLOPP-Y is a restriction enzyme that cuts anywhere it encounters a CA sequence in between the C and the A.

Draw a line anywhere the restriction enzyme SLOPP-Y will cut! Remember to read the bottom strand from right to left.

Background

Anna Anderson claimed for more than 60 years that she was Princess Anastasia, the Grand Duchess of Russia, daughter of Tsar Nicholas and Tsarina Alexandra. Anna Anderson knew a great deal about life in the Russian palace and she could speak very knowledgably about family members. Anna had many people convinced that she was Anastasia, but does the DNA evidence support her claim?

In this activity, you will examine the STR profiles of Anna Anderson, Tsar Nicholas, and Tsarina Alexandra to determine if the DNA evidence supports the claim that Anna Anderson was the child of the tsar and tsarina. Recall that each parent must contribute one STR allele for each STR marker.
