Plants store excess sugars as starch. Starch is a complex carbohydrate. Carbohydrates contain a lot of carbon.
The presence of starch can be determined with an iodine test. The procedure for this investigation is as follows:
If the iodine solution interacts with starch, it turns a blue-black color.
If there is no starch, the iodine solution turns a reddish-brown color.
A clipping from test tube B (direct light) and C (no light) were tested for the presence of starch.
