A group of students enters an engineering competition. They have to build a small boat using only a single of aluminum foil. The boat that holds the greatest number of pennies without sinking wins the competition. The students are given these materials:

• Pennies

• Square piece of aluminum foil, 15 x 15 centimeters

• Large plastic container, half-filled with water

The first thing they need to do is create a design.
