R.J. was the first person in her family to be born in America. She was interested in art, design, and illustrating. After college, she became an art director and illustrator.

Palacios had no idea she would become a best-selling author when her family first came to America. She went to the School of Art & Design and Parson's School of Design to illustrate books.

Raquel is a first-generation American who went to high school and college to study art and design. Later, after a chance encounter with a young girl, R.J. wrote the book Wonder, which became a huge success.
