Procedures

Objective: KWBAT explain how sound waves travel.

Procedure

  1. Working in partners, one of you holds one end of the Slinky and one of you pulls the Slinky across the length of your table.

  2. One of you holds on to one end of the Slinky and stays still. The other student then pushes the Slinky in short bursts toward the student holding the Slinky.

  3. Observe and record how the compressed section of the Slinky behaves when you push it back and forth FORCEFULLY (long, sharp pushes and pulls).

  4. Observe and record how the compressed section of the Slinky behaves when you push it back and forth GENTLY (short, soft pushes and pulls).

  5. Complete the discussion questions below.
