1. Humans have the capacity to create a world of peace and justice.

2. No matter what someone takes from you, he/she can't take your thoughts, private desires, and joys, or alter what goes on in your mind.

3. The media has the power to dictate our values.

4. We have certain beliefs about equality and freedom of speech because our society generally supports and promotes these values. If we lived in another place or time, we would very likely learn to think differently.

5. Someday, humans will reach a state of perfection, despite their problems. The good in us will triumph over the bad.

6. It is acceptable for a government to spy on its citizens in order to prevent or subvert terrorism.

7. In order to thrive in this world/society, we often have to wear a mask, to deny our true feelings, or go with the flow in order to get what we want.

8. Life is easier - less isolating - when you belong to a religious group.

9. Although America claims to uphold certain beliefs, such as freedom and equality, it fails to actually uphold them. These words are empty rhetoric.

10. The truth or what is correct is ultimately determined by majority rule.

11. It is easy to manipulate the public's understanding of its own history.

12. Life is better today than it has ever been.
