Rita Moreno's family were "jibaros", small farmers in Puerto Rico, but them moved to the New York. They didn't speak any English , but her mother got a job and Rita started school. She began taking dance classes and going to auditions after school. At the age of 13, she was chosen for her first role on Broadway. She shortened her name and continued to work hard to be a famous hispanic performer.
