Michele tried hard to compete but had come up short in making the gymnastics team the past three years. Gymnastics was her passion. Ever since she was 6 years old and watched the Summer Olympics for the first time, she dreamed of conquering the uneven bars. But she just didn't have the athleticism and strength to make it work. Her coach saw her work ethic and guided her to try the beam the next season. Michele practiced, even when the team was resting. She was determined to finally realize her dream and make the high school team. However, her footwork could never account for the small size of the beam. Just when Michele thought her chance to make the team was slipping away, her coach gave her one last opportunity with the floor exercise. Though she felt it was her weakest event, she was confident due to her coach's encouragement. She took one deep breath and unleashed a fury of flips and maneuvers she didn't realize she had in her. After she landed her last tumble, she looked up to notice the entire team clapping. Michele knew she had finally made the team and could not stop smiling.
Which sentence from the passage best supports that Michele is willing to work hard?
"Michele knew she had finally made the team and could not stop smiling."
"But she just didn't have the athleticism and strength to make it work."
"Though she felt it was her weakest event, she was confident due to her coach's encouragement."
"Michele practiced, even when the team was resting."
Dear Editor, It has come to my attention that a number of people on the school board wish to implement a school uniform policy for the Ocean Heights School District. As a concerned 6th-grader, I do not agree with this policy. Clothing is an expression of one's individuality. If you rob someone of that, you rob them of their mind and their freedom. This is an issue my fellow students and I feel passionately about. Please do not implement the school uniform policy. Sincerely, Jimmy B. Smith, 6th Grade
Which of the following would be most likely to agree with the letter writer?
a parent whose child was assaulted at school because of his "gang affiliated clothes"
a school board associate who believes that school uniforms can create a positive learning environment
a clothing contractor who could get rich by selling uniforms to the school district
a fellow student who enjoys wearing different clothes to school

Put the clothes on the sidewalk because someone will take them to the Salvation Army.
Move some of the clothes from Mark and Nina's car into Hannah's car to make room.
Leave Nina with Hannah's car to make room for Hannah.
Drive away and let Hannah deal with her own problems.

Every Friday, my family goes out to eat dinner together. This is special time for us because we eat at home the other six nights of the week. We always take turns choosing the restaurant. Last week, my older sister Mary Lou chose to go to Palio's Pizza Place. The week before that my little brother wanted pizza at Cheesy Bites. I was ready for something other than pizza.      As we were getting ready to head out the door, my dad said to me, "Payton, you get to choose the restaurant this week. Since the ball is in your court, where do you want to eat?"      I thought long and hard and decided that my taste buds were shouting out for a hamburger and sweet potato fries. So, we headed off to Adventure Burgers. What does Payton's dad mean when he tells Payton "the ball is in your court"?
It is Payton's turn to decide where they eat.
He and Payton will go to play tennis after dinner.
Payton is not sure where he wants to eat.
Payton is sure that he does not want to eat pizza.
