Colons are used when the second part EXPLAINS the first part. The first part must be a complete sentence. The second part may or may not be. Don't capitalize the second part.
Write a sentence with a colon where the second part is a complete sentence that explains the first part. For example...Suzy was crazy: I saw her poop in her neighbor's yard. (The second part explains how she was crazy.)
