Passage 1: A Note of Courage

Every time Julia sang in music class, her voice barely rose above a whisper. She loved music, but performing in front of others made her nervous.
One day, Ms. James announced a school talent show. “You’d be amazing,” her friend Ava told her.
Julia shook her head. “I’d be too scared.”
But that night, she stood in front of the mirror and sang her favorite song. Her voice sounded strong. “Maybe I can do it,” she whispered.
At the talent show, Julia’s hands trembled as she stepped onto the stage. Then she began to sing. Her voice filled the room.
When she finished, the crowd cheered. Julia smiled. “I’m glad I was brave.”

Passage 2: Singing for Change

When Marcus learned that his town’s music program might be canceled, he didn’t sit quietly. He wrote a letter to the school board, started a petition, and even organized a small concert in the park to raise awareness.
He asked friends to help him create signs and share the message on social media. At the concert, he explained how music helped him make friends and stay focused in school.
After a few weeks, the school board announced the music program would stay.
Marcus beamed. “I just wanted to help. And I guess I did.”
