What is the value of the voltage from this voltmeter? Type just the number into the answer blank.

Categorize each of the statements as to whether it belongs to an ammeter a voltmeter or neither. If it applies to both, then put it in both categories.

  • always placed in parallel (outside with the cables touching either side of the circuit element)
  • used to measure the current through a circuit element
  • used to turn a circuit on and off
  • used to measure the voltage across an element in a circuit
  • used to measure how long the circuit is on
  • always placed in series (interrupting) with the rest of the circuit
  • Ammeter
  • Voltmeter
  • Neither

A student is designing a circuit to measure both the current through a lightbulb and the voltage across a lightbulb. Here is the diagram the student came up with. What is wrong with the diagram? Choose all that apply.

For this circuit, you will need the following materials:
  • 1 D battery in a case
  • 1 lightbulb in a holder
  • 1 ammeter
  • 1 voltmeter
  • wires
  • alligator clips
Build the described circuit and when it is done, demonstrate it to your teacher, and they will check it off in Formative.

Build a circuit with a battery and a lightbulb. Insert an ammeter to measure the value of the current through the lightbulb and a voltmeter to measure the value of the voltage across the lightbulb.

Write down the measured values of the voltage and current in your circuit.
