Every year, millions of monarch butterflies travel thousands of miles on an incredible journey. These beautiful insects are known for their orange and black wings. In late summer, as the days get cooler, the monarchs begin to fly south to find warmer weather. Some butterflies travel all the way from Canada to Mexico, a distance of up to 3,000 miles! Along the way, they face many challenges, like storms and strong winds. They may stop at flowers to eat nectar, which gives them energy for their long trip. Monarch butterflies also rely on their amazing ability to navigate. They use the sun and the Earth’s magnetic field to find their way. When they reach their destination, they rest in large groups on trees in Mexico. In the spring, after staying in Mexico for the winter, the butterflies return north to lay their eggs. The next generation of monarchs will begin the journey all over again. This amazing migration teaches us about perseverance and the beauty of nature. With every journey, these butterflies inspire us to keep going, no matter how difficult the path may seem.
