Filter the contents of the boiling tube into the crystallising dish.
Firstly Measure 20 cm3 (using a measuring cylinder) of 0.5 M sulfuric acid into a boiling tube.
Agitate gently then put tube back into the hot water. Repeat step 4 and 5 until residue remains.
Add a small spatula of copper (II) oxide to the acid.
Stand the tube in a 150 cm3 beaker, half-filled with just-boiled water from a kettle.
Rest a filter funnel in a 100 cm3 conical flask. Place a folded paper in the funnel.
Leave to warm for 2-3 minutes.
