Passage: Bees at Work

Bees are some of the hardest-working insects in nature. They live in hives, which can hold thousands of bees. Each bee has an important job. Worker bees collect nectar from flowers and bring it back to the hive. Other bees turn the nectar into honey, which becomes food for the colony. Bees also carry pollen from flower to flower. This helps plants grow new seeds. Without bees, many fruits, vegetables, and flowers would not survive.

Over time, as more states joined the Union, stars were added to the flag. Today, the flag has fifty stars and thirteen stripes. It is a symbol of freedom and unity for the country.
