One example from the text is when the boy says,“I want to buy things and have fun. I want some money. Can you give me some money?” In other words, he is being greedy and isn’t thinking about anybody else but himself.

In the story, as the boy grew up he kept asking the tree for more and more stuff. Each time the tree helps him the boy just leaves and never says thank you or does a kind act back. In the end, he even cut the tree down to a stump. This shows that the selfishness of the boy made the tree a stump but in the end the tree was the perfect seat for the old boy and now they are both happy.

All he wants is bigger and better things. He is asking the tree for a life because he knows that the tree loves him and would do anything for him because he didn’t want to do the work himself.
