When I was twelve years old, my parents decided to send me to a summer camp for two weeks. It was my first time being away from home for so long, so I was both excited and a little nervous. The camp was located near a large lake in the countryside, surrounded by forests and mountains. When we arrived, I met five other girls who stayed in the same cabin with me. They were all friendly, and we became close very quickly.
Every morning, we woke up at 6:30 and went for a short run near the lake. After breakfast, we had different activities like swimming, kayaking, hiking, or learning survival skills in the forest. One day, our group walked deep into the woods with an instructor who taught us how to build a fire and find clean water. It was difficult but really exciting. In the evenings, there were campfire events where we sang songs, shared stories, and roasted marshmallows. I remember laughing a lot with my new friends.
However, one day something unexpected happened. During a hiking trip, one of the girls in our group slipped on a wet rock and hurt her leg. We didn’t have phone signal in the forest, so the instructor asked two of us to run back to the camp and call for help. The rest of us stayed with the injured girl and tried to keep her calm. Luckily, the camp nurse arrived quickly and took her to a nearby hospital. She was fine, but the event made all of us more careful after that.
When the camp ended, I didn’t want to go home. I felt stronger, more confident, and more independent than before. I also promised to stay in touch with my new friends, and we still send messages to each other sometimes. That summer camp was one of the most memorable experiences of my childhood.
