Something sneaky roamed the room
With giggles soft as dust,
It tapped on desks, it poked my books,
It stirred up chalky gusts.
_____________________________________________
It scribbled tiny curly wigs
On posters by the wall,
It doodled mustaches on cats—
The boldest trick of all!
________________________________________________
It tapped my shoulder—poke poke poke!—
Then zipped away so fast,
It left a trail of scribbly lines
Across my spelling test!
_______________________________________________
It played the drums on tabletops,
It danced on notebook rings,
It even tried to trip the glue
By tying up its strings!

I searched beneath the teacher’s desk,
I searched behind the chair,
But all I saw were shavings
Scattered everywhere…

Then suddenly—AHA!—I knew
Who caused each prank and pinch.
The culprit rolled right onto mine…
A goofy, grinning pencil—
And it didn’t move an inch!
