Hector opened the pizza box and inhaled deeply. His parents weren’t yet at the table, but surely they would not mind if he tried just one piece…
As he raised a slice to his mouth, his mother walked into the room. “No!” she shrieked, racing over and knocking the piece of pizza out of his hand.
Hector’s mouth hung open as he stared at the pizza mess on the floor. “Sorry, Mom. I didn’t know you would be that mad!”
“No, that pizza has red pepper on it.” She pointed to a second box. “That one is safe for you to eat.”
Remembering the last time he ate peppers and broke out in a rash, Hector thanked his mom and reached for the other pizza.
Sharks are interesting creatures to learn about. They are fish. Like all other fish, sharks are cold-blooded, live in the water, have fish, and breathe with gills. Sharks’ bodies are made of cartilage, which is less dense than bone. Having cartilage allows sharks to move quickly through the water without using too much energy. Sharks live all over the world, from warm lagoons to frozen seas. Some sharks even live in freshwater lakes and rivers. All sharks are carnivores, which means they only eat other animals as opposed to plants. Many movies like to focus on sharks’ love for meat. However, only 32 of the approximately 350 shark species have ever been known to attack humans.
