Do you have a "Lady Macbeth" in your life? Compare the character to someone you know.

WHAT IS AN ASIDE?

An aside is a dramatic device where a character directly speaks to the audience with a brief remark, revealing inner thoughts or commentary. Other characters on stage remain unaware of what is being said.

WHY DO WRITERS USE ASIDES?

Plays, films, and novels are largely built on dialogue between characters. Since it is unrealistic for characters to openly share their secret plans or emotions, asides give the audience access to this hidden world. They are especially effective for villains (or tragic heroes), who often use them to share DEVIOUS SCHEMES or INTERNAL CONFLICT without alerting other characters.
