A Rainy Day Surprise

Maya woke up to the sound of rain tapping on her window. The sky looked like a big gray blanket, and puddles were already forming on the sidewalk. Maya sighed because she had planned to play outside after breakfast.

After she ate, Maya put on her yellow raincoat and boots. “I can still have fun,” she told herself. She walked to the park with her dad and watched the raindrops splash in the puddles like tiny jumping beans.

Near the slide, Maya noticed something moving under a wet leaf. She knelt down and saw a small worm wriggling on the path. “It might dry out here,” Maya said. Carefully, she used a stick to lift the worm and place it in the soft, muddy soil beside the flower bed.

On the way home, the rain slowed to a drizzle. Maya felt proud because she had helped a living thing. When she got inside, she made hot cocoa and looked out the window. The day hadn’t turned out the way she expected, but it was still a good day.
