There are Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Great Pyramid of Giza was built for an Egyptian pharaoh. The pyramid was used as Khufu’s tomb, or the place he was buried. It was built in the city of Giza and was constructed many centuries ago. For about 3,800 years, the Great Pyramid was the tallest structure in the world. Other structures built later have been taller. Not many people have been inside a pyramid, but if you did take a peek inside, you’d see some interesting things. There are many chambers, or rooms, decorated with scenes of everyday life in ancient Egypt. No one knows for sure how the pyramid was built, but people do believe that it must have taken many workers using a lot of stone to create it. The workers must have been very skilled and strong as well. Today we have modern equipment to help us build tall buildings and move heavy stones. The stones used in the pyramid could be anywhere from 21⁄2 to 15 tons each! It’s believed that oxen and other strong animals played a part in the construction of the pyramid. The Great Pyramid of Giza is very old, but it’s a popular place to visit to see one of the world’s ancient wonders.
