Verbs
Verbs are words that tell actions, link a subject with a description, or it’s a being word.
Example: “run,” “jump,” “think,” “seems,” “is”
Verbs are very important in English. The more verbs you know, the better your English will be.
Types of Verbs
Action Verbs: These verbs tell physical or mental action.
Linking Verbs: They connect the subject of a sentence to a description.
Helping Verbs (Auxiliary Verbs): These verbs help the action verb (main verb) to tell tense, mood, or voice.
Tell an action word that you know.
They tell what the subject is doing.
Action verbs are very specific. They draw a mental picture of what the action is specifically. The more specific your verb is, the better your writing is.
Examples
The boy ate his dinner.
The boy scarfed his dinner.
Make a sentence using the action verb "say."
Change the verb in this sentence to a more specific one: She goes to the bathroom.
Types of Verbs
Linking verbs link the subject of a sentence to a description.
They do not show action.
Examples:
The man is tall.
The food smells delicious.
Write a sentence that uses a linking verb.
Helping verbs work with main verbs to change the tense or voice.
Examples:
She is singing beautifully.
They have been waiting for hours.

Regular and Irregular Verbs
Regular Verbs: They follow the normal pattern.
Irregular Verbs: They do not follow the normal pattern.
Regular: Walk – walked – walked
Irregular: Go – went – gone
Say = said is an irregular verb

Simple: past, present, future
Continuous: past, present, future
Perfect: past, present, future
Perfect continuous: past, present, future

Verb phrases have a main verb (usually an action) and one or more helping verbs.
They help tell the time/tense.
Examples:
She has been studying all night.
They are going to visit their grandparents.

They are actions.
You can’t separate them and they still mean the same thing.
Examples:
turn off = ปิด
hand in = ส่งมา
turn on = เปิด
hand out = แจก.
