This is something you need to plan to use your time outside of class to complete.

This can count as a grade on it's own and as an extra credit assignment, as deemed appropriate.

1.

Document with list of cell structure functions.

Submit this by Friday (12 Dec) of this week.

This document should have a table on it, set up in the following way:

  • first column - name of cell structure

  • second column - function or purpose of the structure

  • third column - who discovered it and when

2.

Image of Cell Drawing - submit this by Friday (12 Dec) of this week.

This is not the model.

Must be hand-drawn and labeled (all of the cell structures from Part 1 must be included).

Look up, "Labeled Animal Cell Diagram" on the internet and find an example.

3.

If you do not have paper, you can use this to draw and label your diagram (part 2)

Labels - all of the cell structures from Part 1 must be included.

Instructions for Making the Model

Step 3: Gather Supplies

Choose materials based on your model type:

  1. Edible Model (e.g., with Gelatin or Cake)

    • Gelatin, fruits (like plums for the nucleus), and various candies.

    • Cake mix and items to represent organelles.

    • Rice-Krispie cake model (Mr. Poe recommended)

  2. Non-Edible Model

    • Styrofoam balls, modeling clay, paints, glue, scissors, and small objects (buttons, beads) for organelles.

Step 4: Build Your Model

For Edible Models:

  1. Prepare gelatin or bake a cake.

  2. Line your bowl or plate.

  3. Add cell components according to your map.

For Non-Edible Models:

  1. Use a large ball (Styrofoam or play-dough) as the cell base.

  2. Cut a quarter out of it for a cross-section.

  3. Paint the inside and attach your organelles using glue or toothpicks.

Step 5: Label the Components

  • Create labels for each part of your cell model using small flags or toothpicks.

  • Recommend using toothpicks and masking tape

    • Write the organelle names on masking tape and affix them to the toothpicks.

    • Push the toothpicks into each organelle or cell structure.

    • Each structure from the Cell Parts list (Part 1) must be included and labeled.

Model labeling alternative.

Must be labeled (all of the cell structures from Part 1 must be included).

Copy and paste an image of your model here and type out labels on this.
