First-Week Icebreaker (K–5)

How to play (whole class)

  1. Move safely: Walk, watch for others, and keep hands to yourself.

  2. Find Someone Who: Talk to classmates to find a person who matches a prompt.

  3. How to record: When you find someone, write their name (or initials) on your paper OR tell the teacher your match.

  4. Switch partners often: After each match, find a new person.

  5. Stop signal: When the teacher raises a hand and says “Freeze,” stop, look, and listen.

Would You Rather (classroom edition)

  • Stand on one side of the room for Choice A and the other side for Choice B.

  • When you choose, listen to someone who chose differently.

  • Use sentence frames:

    • “I chose ___ because ___.”

    • “I agree/disagree because ___.”

Goal

We are learning names, interests, and how we do things in our classroom.
