There are two main categories of mutations.

POINT mutations only change one base and do not greatly impact the DNA sequence. These can be SILENT Substitutions, which change a base but does not change the amino acid sequence, or NON-SILENT Substitutions, which change a base AND change one amino acid in the sequence.

FRAMESHIFT mutations ADD or DELETE bases from the DNA sequence and "shifts" the entire sequence over. These can be insertions (adding bases) or deletions (deleting bases). The mutated sequence then "shifts" over because we have added or removed bases from it. Frameshift mutations have a greater impact on the protein produced because more bases are moved around than in a point mutation.

Spørgsmål 16
16.

How are the temperature ranges between fish embryos and adult fish different?

Spørgsmål 17
17.

Which gene or genes is most likely present in the Incubated Icefish AND what specific kinds of mutations are they? How do you know?

Support your answer with at least 2 pieces of evidence. WRITE IN CER FORMAT. USE COMPLETE SENTENCES!

Spørgsmål 18
18.

The temperature of the water in Antarctica ranges between -2ºC in the winter to 2ºC in the summer. Climate change models have predicted that global ocean temperatures will increase by another 3.2ºC in the next 80 years. How will this affect the population of Icefish over time?
