Objective

By the end of this lesson, students will break unfamiliar multisyllabic words into smaller parts, read each part, and blend them to pronounce the whole word accurately.

I can break a long word into useful parts, blend the parts, and explain what the word means.

Step	Student action
1. STOP	Do not guess from the first few letters.
2. CHUNK	Look for prefixes, suffixes, roots/base words, syllables, and vowel patterns.
3. SAY	Say each part carefully.
4. BLEND	Put the parts together and say the whole word.
5. CHECK	Ask: “Does that sound right? Does it make sense in the sentence?”
