The soldiers ignored the ravages of war as best as they could. One man, Charles McGee, had chronic headaches, stress-induced pain. Another had to be taken to the military make-shift hospital to rest for a few days because he froze with terror every time he and the other soldiers stepped into the jungle to fight. Officer Peters recalled a question that a flustered soldier had once asked: If a soldier obtained a wound that was too difficult to repair and it happened in the middle of battle, what would happen to the soldier? The officer tried his best to keep his composure during everything, but the Vietnam War was far different than any other battle he had been engaged.
