Can the people in the cave truly be held responsible for their “error” of not knowing about the real world? The fact that they were chained and held in a cave prevented them from knowing more, and thus they had no control of whether or not they could learn more. In modern day terms, can someone truly be held responsible for something they had done, or not done, based on lack of knowledge over which they have no control?
